01-03-2025 Wheatfield with Crows – Van Gogh, 1890 – in pencil
I’m creating this pencil drawing for two upcoming exhibitions I’ll be holding in March 2025 at Palazzo Drago in Verzuolo and UniTre in Bricherasio. This work will be added—alongside another piece I haven’t started yet—to the ten already displayed at the Saluzzo exhibition in September 2024 at the Spazio Culturale Piemontese.
This particular artwork by Vincent Van Gogh struck me, partly because it was long believed to be his final piece, though later disproven, and partly because it reflects a mental state in full crisis—the wheat field looks like a stormy sea!
It was a challenge to complete this drawing, as ideally it would have benefited from using at least two or three colors. Working with a monochromatic approach made it quite tricky to differentiate the details, which in this pencil version may appear somewhat ‘merged.’ Still, in my opinion, the artist’s intent is perceptible even in this technique. All credit goes to the new pencil!
