Pencil Drawing

08/04/2025 Girl with a Pearl Earring (or Girl with a Turban) in pencil

Perhaps one of the most famous works of art, rightly considered the "Mona Lisa" of Northern Europe.
So much beauty in the young woman portrayed here by Vermeer in 1665—likely of humble origin, perhaps a maid or house servant engaged in cleaning or household tasks... She appears to be little more than an adolescent, judging by the facial features and the presence of her teeth, which were still visible at a time when personal hygiene was precarious.

Everything is left to the imagination, since there’s little known about the artist himself, yet this painting communicates so much simply by looking at it... In fact, in 2003, the beautiful film was released film 'La ragazza con l'orecchino di perla'.

It reveals a sentimental involvement between the artist and this young maid, from which the following words can be imagined:

To the love that cannot live in the sunlight.
The hidden love, the forbidden love. The one that truly consumes you.
The one that truly destroys you.
The love that still begs for one last kiss, no matter how senseless.
The love that should end. But you can't. You don’t want to...
