Pencil Drawing

25-06-2025 The Last Supper – Leonardo da Vinci’s Cenacolo

I created this pencil drawing of Leonardo da Vinci’s masterpiece dedicated to the Last Supper (Cenacolo).
It took several days, working in my spare time with my Faber-Castell pencil—an hour or two every now and then. Reconstructing all those faces, hand gestures, the richly laid table, the feet… every detail was a test of patience. Leonardo gave importance to each element, and you realize it when you attempt to reproduce his work, analyzing every part.

When I enlarge the image, I can see how approximate my rendition really is compared to the original. Yet looking at it as a whole, I feel satisfied, even though—as a self-taught artist—my drawing skills aren’t particularly remarkable. Still, I love drawing: it relaxes me and helps relieve my stress.

This first sketch of the Last Supper serves as a foundation for a new project. It’s inspired in part by my walks on the Saluzzo hillside and my nearly twenty-year work experience in Revello, home to a version of the Last Supper inside the beautiful and historic Marchionale Chapel, nestled at the foot of the Po Valley.

I won’t go into further detail now. Soon I’ll be presenting a “Vincian” hypothesis about Leonardo’s stay in the Po Valley, stemming from my ideas and insights—which may not align with reality. I love imagining scenarios involving these charismatic and brilliant figures from the past, especially since concrete evidence exists of Leonardo da Vinci’s visit to the Marquisate, as supported by unequivocal historical documentation and the strong signal represented by the Revello fresco—a work that truly raises many questions.

I’ll conclude by sharing here a link to some of my reflections on this topic: QUI
